The Just-Noticeable Difference
Pick up a 200g weight; add 5g and you’ll feel it. Pick up a 2,000g weight; add 5g and you won’t. The threshold for detecting change isn’t 5g — it’s a small fixed fraction of whatever you started with, a couple of percent for weight. Every sensory channel has its own Weber fraction, and they’re surprisingly stable.
