From Land to Everything
Pareto was an Italian economist studying land ownership in 1896. He noticed about 80% of the land sat with 20% of the people — and, as the story goes, saw the same lopsided distribution in the pea pods in his garden. The pattern turned out to be everywhere, and the name stuck.
