The Planning Fallacy
Kahneman and Tversky’s name for the same bug Hofstadter described. People estimate as if everything will go right, even when they know — in the abstract — that it never does. Each individual step looks reasonable; the sum reliably misses. The fallacy is robust, well-documented, and survives extensive training to overcome it.
